International arrest warrant issued in DRC against the leader of the AFC and his collaborator held responsible for crimes of war and betrayal against the State.
On 5 February 2025 the Democratic Republic of the Congo issued an international arrest warrant against Corneille Nangaa, former president of CENI and current leader of the movement “Alliance du Fleuve Congo” (AFC), and against Jean-Jacques Mamba, member of the organization. The initiative was promoted by the Auditorat Militaire Supérieur of Kinshasa/Gombe, with the Colonel Parfait Mbuta Muntu who specified the obligation to arrest them wherever they are and to submit them to authorities according to the sentence following a trial for treason.
The mandate highlights how, on the 15th November 2023 in Nairobi, Corneille Nangaa founded the AFC,, out of interests personal, forming alliances with several armed groups, including the M23. Subsequently, the leader went to Kigali, Rwanda, where the local authorities would have designated him coordinator of rebel movements against the Kinshasa regime.

The trial, concluded on August 8, 2024, has convicted Corneille Nangaa, on the run, together with 25 other defendants, under penalty of death for “war crimes, participation in a movement insurrectionary and treason”. Later on appeal, the High Military Court has confirmed the death penalty for five of the 26 defendants, including Samafu Makinu Nicaise, M Kangya Nyamatshaba Microbe, Nangaa Baseyane Ruttens Safari Bishori Luc and Nkuba Shebandu Eric (aka MalembMalembe); some of them admitted to having been recruited by the AFC/M23
