In 2024, the DR Congo recorded a 9.9% growth in the telecommunications sector, driven by the increasing use of the internet and mobile digital payments.

Throughout 2024, the telecommunications sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo experienced significant growth of 9.9%, surpassing the previous year’s rate of 7.2%. This increase was mainly driven by the strong growth in the use of the internet and digital payments via mobile devices, as confirmed by the Central Bank of Congo (BCC). The expanded use of the mobile network for communication, browsing, and especially for carrying out financial transactions has radically transformed the country’s economic and technological landscape.

The growth was also favored by the numerous promotional offers launched by sector operators, which have made digital services more accessible to an increasingly wider segment of the population. Mobile money, in particular, is establishing itself as a central tool for financial inclusion in a context where access to traditional banking services is often limited.

The interconnection between digitalization and economic development is therefore increasingly evident, making telecommunications a strategic pillar for the future of the DRC.
