Tragica offensiva su Jenin, Israele cambia fronte e attacca ancora

A tragic offensive on Jenin, Israel attacks again

We can’t even rejoice for a day, that once again we are forced to tell of massacres and killings in Palestine in what seems to be a very fragile truce.
While thousands of Palestinians are returning to Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, after the ceasefire agreement came into force on Sunday, this morning (Tuesday 21, ed.) the Israeli army launched an attack on Jenin, heavily bombing the city in the occupied West Bank. There have been about ten people dead and at least 35 wounded so far, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The Israeli military said in a joint statement with the Shin Bet, Israel’s intelligence agency, that it has launched an “anti-terrorist operation” in Jenin, dubbed “Iron Wall.” MEE reported that the Israeli military assault began with special forces infiltrating the city’s eastern Jabriyat neighborhood with heavy artillery and warplane attacks, after Palestinian Authority security forces, which have been in Jenin since December, withdrew from the city.
The IDF bombardment accompanied a large-scale ground assault on several areas, both inside the city and the camp, which is expected to last several days, a military source told The Times of Israel.
Reporters on the scene, Muhammad Ateeq in Jenin and Fayha Shalash in Ramallah, reported armed clashes between Palestinian resistance fighters and the IDF. The Jenin Brigades, the city’s largest armed resistance group, said their fighters were facing “invading occupation forces” on several battlefronts.
Israeli warplanes bombed a vehicle outside the Jenin refugee camp, killing the driver, and ground forces are besieging both al-Amal Hospital and the Jenin Government Hospital.
“There are dead bodies on the streets, and many people are injured, but no one can reach them” is the dramatic testimony that comes to us from ambulance driver Hazem Masarwa “The ambulances were hit by gunfire while trying to reach the injured and their access to several neighborhoods was blocked by Israeli military vehicles”.
A few days ago, the public israelian broadcaster Kan had shown the images of dozens of masked Israeli settlers, in the area of al-Funduq, and in the nearby village of Jinsafut, in the West Bank, while at night they set fire to some cars, while trying to enter homes and throwing stones at Palestinians.
The Israeli far right, dissatisfied with the signed truce, is pushing the settlers to seek confrontation. The situation is extremely tense and the threat of another war front is more than likely. Hamas has launched an appeal for a general mobilization in the West Bank, with the aim of “thwarting the vast Zionist aggression against the city of Jenin”. Certainly the extremism on both sides does not favor the peaceful transition, necessary for the realization of the truce and the reconstruction that the Palestinians, exhausted by 15 months of war, are waiting for.
